The name Temple Beth Am means House of the People. We are a congregation that values community, worship, tikkun olam, education, a place of holiness, fiscal responsibility, involvement and ethical behavior – and there are many ways to get involved.

Building

Building and Facility

Temple Beth Am is blessed with a wonderful facility and a new K’hilah Center that is well utilized. This community assists in evaluating proper maintenance and planning for the future. Chair: Ross Kling

Art Committee

Temple Beth Am provides gallery space for rotating exhibitions. Help the Art Committee plan for future shows. Chair: Judith Silverman

Finance Committee

An organization is only successful if it remains financially healthy. The Finance committee provides guidance in this area. We strive for financial health for all to give their fair share. The committee has subcommittes on Endowments, Dues, Budget Development, and Fundraising. Chair: Ellen Kret

Programming

The Programming Committee helps to integrate programming activities throughout the Temple Beth Am community and also provides a forum for matching volunteers with opportunities that meet their interests, skills and availability. Chair: Stephanie Seiler

Membership
Temple Beth Am has had significant growth over the past 10 years. This committee works with prospective members to help orient them and provide opportunities to become involved in our community. Chairs: Maggie Medearis
Project Hineyni (Caring Community)
Our congregation faces life’s challenges on a regular basis. Providing meals, rides, visits, phone contact and errands are some of the day-to-day ways we try to connect those in need with those who can help.
Seattle Jewish Seniors
Temple Beth Am works in connection with other Seattle Jewish senior programs to provide services and programs. Chair: Adell Levy & Steve Adler

Youth

Youth Committee supports and guides our Temple's Youth Department. Beth Am Temple Youth (BATY) is our High School Youth Group and jBATY is our youth group for grades 6-8. BATY is affiliated with the North American Federation of Temple Youth (NFTY). Support and work with our Youth Director Dorothy Kahn and our teens to generate interesting, meaningful, and fun programs. Chair: Elyse Litvack

Life Long Learning

Arts & Culture
Explore the many ways we can bring different expressions of Art and Culture to Temple Beth Am, including bringing art historians and docents, dance, theater, or cultural events to the community. Chairs: Philip & Rachael Levine
Library
Temple Beth Am’s exceptional library features materials that support programs and the leisure reading needs of congregants. Purchases of books are funded by a book fair held each fall, which relies on volunteers. Chair: Toby Harris
Beth Am Parent Association
BAPA supports teachers and the Religious School experience to foster connection and communication among parents, students, teachers, administrators and the Religious School Board. Chair: Leigh Hofheimer & Wendy Katzman

Tikkun Olam

Social Action Committee
Social Action is one of our core values--bringing peace, justice, and equality to our community and the world. Projects range from promoting Youth Care, Angeline’s Women’s Day Shelter, Tent City, Homeless to Renter, gun control, Fair Trade coffee, supporting green practices, to providing speakers and educational forums. Chair: Susan Picard
Homeless to Renter (H2R)
This program is for homeless people who have found employment but need help getting first month and last month and security deposit to move into apartments. We run fundraisers every year around Sukkot to raise money for this, and then take donations during the year. Learn more about how you can be involved. Chair: Ellen Naor

Worship and Lifecycle  

ARZA

Activities include supporting lectures on Israel current affairs, promoting educations articles, and revising literature and resources to prepare Temple Beth Am high school youth for intelligent discussion on Israel. Chair: Sandy Berger

Religious Practices Committee
Worship is dynamic, participatory, and at the very core of our values. Observance, liturgy, and music are major themes. Religious Practices Co-Chairs: Phil Shack and Jerry Liebermann
