Adult B'nai Mitzvah Class

This class is open to Beth Am members who have never had a Bar/Bat mitzvah and to those who feel that having experienced one in their childhood, they would benefit from renewing their studies, culminating in an Adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah service. This is a two-year process and commitment.

The Hebrew portion of the class, taught by Aza Hadas, will meet on a weekly basis. There will be two levels - one for those who have limited Hebrew and one for those who have a stronger foundation. Rabbi Jonathan Singer and Rabbi Beth Singer will team teach the Judaic portion every other week focusing on the theology of the Siddur, ritual engagement, and general knowledge.

The class will mirror what our youth do in their Bnai Mitzvah preparation and so will require twice monthly Shabbat service attendance on either Fridays or Saturdays, a tikkun olam project, and specific readings. It culminates in a beautiful service, usually led by sections of the class, over two Friday night Shabbatot at the end of the second year.

How do I sign up? If you are interested please contact Eila, the Rabbinic Assistant, to register at 206-525-0915. Please register with payment by September 7, 2010.

Class will meet at 10 AM starting Sunday, October 3, 2010. The cost for the Adult B’nai Mitzvah Class is $500 which may be paid over time after consultation with the Temple's Executive Director. This covers Hebrew classes, the Jewish Studies classes, preparation for the Adult B’nai Mitzvah service and books.
