Our commitment to Tikkun Olam, working toward making the world whole, is reflected at Temple Beth Am in the opportunities available to all members to participate in activities guided by the values of tzedek (justice), chesed and g’milut Chasidim (charity and acts of love and kindness) and shalom (peace).

From the Social Action Committee to the educational forums to the Religious School classroom, there are many ways in which individuals and families at Beth Am learn about how these values are expressed in Judaism and can find ways of being involved at a level that is right for them.

Just Congregations offers members a chance to connect with neighbors and share concerns to help shape the social justice work we do at Temple Beth Am. In the spring of 2009, Just Congregations has sponsored house parties to help our members meet each other and understand our mutual challenges.

The Green Team was formed to address issues of global warming and the environment. Interested in Greening TBA? The Green Team is committed to operating our Temple in an environmentally responsible matter, presenting educational programs to promote ecological awareness, and motivating members to "green" their homes and workplaces through the use of environmentally-friendly products and practices.

The Homeless to Renter Program (H2R) provides help to homeless or nearly homeless families with children so that they can become renters and live in stable housing. Annual focus on freedom, civil rights and meeting our tradition’s call to help the poor and the stranger among us are reflected in Mitzvah Day, Freedom Shabbat, and many other events and activities, both internally and in cooperation with the broader community. We are working toward enhancing understanding and activities around Tikkun Olam as part of the yearly holiday and life cycle.
