Happenings at Beth Am

A message from Rabbi Lura Rumpf

Rabbi Laura talks about the month of Elul and shares a text into practice offering. She shares a poem and creative practice of a blank page as we look towards the possibilities at the end of this Jewish year and to the start of the next.

Check out more resources and reflections on our Elul Page. We’ll be updating this page weekly.

Jewish Meditation Group

Sundays starting Sept 29

All Beth Am members are welcome to this 5785/2024-25 third iteration of an in-person lay-led Jewish Meditation group at Temple Beth Am.

Sundays in starting September 29 from 9:30am-11am at Temple Beth Am. All adults welcome (not only those with kids in Gan)! No prior meditation experience is necessary.

Sign up here.

This will be a time for us to come together as a community to explore how meditation can help us rest deeply, listen to our truest self, connect to our spiritual dimension, and build community. There is a great history of meditation and contemplation in our tradition. We will use an approach centered in neo-Hasidism, Kabbalah, and other streams of Jewish mysticism, with some supportive methods and ideas from Buddhist lineages.

Two Social Justice Opportunities

Tiny Home Builds

H2R continues to be involved with the unhoused community. In May, we began building homes for the Tiny Home Villages. The TBA/H2R community has found this Tikkun Olam experience to be most gratifying in “making a difference.”

We now have 2 upcoming opportunities. First Sept 30, for folks who have already done at least one Tiny Home Build. The next opportunity is October 16, for those who would like to join for the first time. This Oct 16 date is specially being “held” for TBA to come as a group of first timers. We can have up to 12 people; and all must be at least 16 years. Please join us in this wonderful mitzvah!

If you have any questions please contact Temple@templebetham.org to be put in contact with either Sue Covey or Laura Strauss.

The Gan

Dear Gan Families,

Thanks to your feedback, we can now shift the start date for the 4th-6th mid-week Gan to Thursday, October 26 at our regular time of 5:00pm-6:30pm. We will have Pizza Dinner in the Sukkah (weather permitting). We will be updating the calendars to reflect this shift.

This shift is possible because this year we are celebrating Simchat Torah on the final day of Sukkot, Friday, October 27. We hope you will join us for Shabbat services followed by singing, dancing, and root beer floats!

With the late start of the High Holy Days this year, we will still be having The Gan on Thursday, October 31. We recognize that many families participate in Halloween rituals so for students who attend before trick or treating, we will be learning about spooky Jewish folk traditions, playing games, and having a sweet treat with our pizza. Please note that if students are in costume, they cannot wear masks, fake blood, or fake weapons while in The Gan.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone on Sunday, September 29 for our first day. Please be sure to enroll now if you have not already!

Thank you all,

The Gan Learning Team
