Ways to Connect

Deepen Your Relationship to Judaism and Your Community

6th and 7th Grade Summer Virtual Hebrew Intensive

We are offering a Summer Hebrew Intensive for rising 6th and 7th grade students who are preparing for their B'nai Mitzvah and looking for additional support with Hebrew decoding (reading Hebrew letters and sounds) and Hebrew reading fluency. Over the course of four mornings, students will focus on Hebrew letter sounds, vowel sounds, syllables and reading. We will not be covering B’nai Mitzvah prayers or Torah blessings during this intensive.

This four day, virtual class will take place from Tuesday, August 24th through Friday, August 27th at 10:00 AM-11:30 AM on Zoom.

Doorways into T’filah: an Elul Journey

Doorways into T’filah: an Elul Journey weekdays, 12:00 – 12:30pm via Zoom beginning Monday, August 9th.

Join Dita Appelbaum and Shelly F. Cohen in a deep dive into the first two sections of HaT’filah (The Prayer), the heart of our liturgy. Inspired by SVARA: A Traditionally Radical Yeshiva, we’ll use a method that enables each person to find their own personal meaning in the text. No prior knowledge of Hebrew or level of Jewish observance is required; in fact, “beginner’s mind” is a plus!

All sessions will include time for sharing in small groups of two to four. Come to as many or as few of the sessions as you can!

Sign-Up Now for Elul Hearth Groups!

To help you prepare mentally for the High Holy Days, we are once again offering our Elul Hearth Groups, a modern twist on an ancient custom. The month of Elul, leading up to the High Holy Days, is traditionally a time of introspection, of taking stock of one's life. We have put together curricula for a weekly series of small group discussions that are designed to foster reflective conversations. An Elul Hearth Group is not a class; it's an opportunity to share stories, to see and hear each other more deeply, rather than to take positions or debate issues.

This year participants have an option to meet either virtually or in-person. To sign-up for an Elul Hearth Group and state your meeting preferences, click here!

Beth Am FAQs

We are excited to introduce our Beth Am Frequently Asked Questions to each week's Happenings email. This is a space where we hope to increase bi-directional communication within our community. If you have a question you would like answered email temple@templebetham.org.

When will the choir return to services?

Given the rise in COVID cases and the Delta Variant, communal singing will be one of the last activities to resume in-person at Temple. However, we recognize how important our choir is to our community and our worship, we are recording the choir safely so that their music can be accessed and shared during the High Holy Days and beyond.

Can I bring non-member guests to High Holy Day Services this year?

With only five in-person High Holy Day services, it is essential that we first ensure every member has an opportunity to attend at least one service. So at this time we must first wait and see how many members can safely attend services before we can determine how many seats may or may not be available for non-member guests. We hope to know by August 20, 2021 how many guests we can safely allow at each of our High Holy Day services for 5782. If you haven't already, please let us know your interest in participating in and attending the 5782 High Holy Day worship opportunities by filling out our interest form here. Please note the last day to submit your preferences is August 18th at 12:59 PM.
