Social Action

Our commitment to social action at Temple Beth Am is guided by the principle of tikkun olam (working towards making the world whole).

The social action committees and programs at Temple Beth Am provide a wide variety of opportunities for our members to practice tzedek (justice), hesed and g’milut chasidim (charity and acts of loving-kindness), and shalom (peace). We hope that in practicing these values, our community gains a deep awareness of the social, political, and environmental issues we face today.

We put tikkun olam into practice not only by engaging our community in social action programs, but by taking a firm stance on the issues that impact us all. With the Board of Directors' action, Temple Beth Am joins a growing cohort of Reform congregations that have signed on to the Religious Action Center's Brit Olam (Covenant with our World) and who have declared themselves to be Immigrant Justice Congregations.

We are fortunate to have rabbis who are passionate and engaged in making the world a better place for everyone. You can read an example of a sermon delivered from our bima that demonstrate our call for social justice:
