Following our annual Beth Am Covenant Renewal service and ceremony on Thursday, May 21, we’ll continue our Shavuot celebration with one of the holiday’s most fascinating and fun traditions: Tikkun Leil Shavuot, a late-night study gathering that invites us to stay up learning, questioning, singing, tasting, and exploring together.
Shavuot celebrates the giving of Torah at Mount Sinai, and the Tikkun Leil tradition imagines us preparing ourselves to receive Torah anew. At Beth Am, that means an evening of lively, creative, and unexpected learning, with three 45-minute study slots beginning at 8:30 PM and continuing late into the evening. Each time slot will offer multiple study options, featuring wonderfully wacky, niche, and thought-provoking topics connected to the holiday through text, art, music, food, ritual, history, and more.
And of course, because it’s Shavuot, there will be breaks for cheesecake and other dairy delights along the way.
Whether you are a lifelong learner, a Shavuot beginner, a lover of Jewish trivia, a fan of strange texts, or just someone who likes the idea of Torah and cheesecake after dark, this night is for you.
Anyone who wants to take it a step further and sign up for a special *Shavuot All-Nighter* following the main learning event should contact Rabbi Jesse at rabbijesse@templebetham.org.
