Soul: Bet Tefillah, House of Prayer

This will be a spiritual practice group, literally. A group willing to learn about the Jewish context of the understanding and application of inner qualities to improve our habits of “being” in the world.

We will explore:

Chesed- Opening up to Loving Connection

Gevurah- Setting Wise and Holy Boundaries

Anavah- Centering in a Balanced Self

Zerizut- Channeling an Energetic Response

Hodayah- Experiencing Gratitude

Tzedek- Letting Righteousness Flow

We’ll discuss the life changes we are facing (jobs, relationships, pandemic, anything else) and share strategies for moving through our emotional responses to these external changes. How can Jewish tradition help us navigate this process?

Heart: Bet Kehillah, House of Community

This is an on going group that is looking to add new members!

Judaism teaches that from the first moment of Creation, words create worlds. It’s not a surprise, then, that so many of us at TBA love the written word. Interested in seeing what it takes to get a novel drafted? Looking to polish your short stories? Ready to get to work on your memoir? Writing a stage or screen play? This any-genre writing group will be crafted to suit the needs of the attendees with the goal of fostering community among literary-based creatives at Temple Beth Am.

Join your host, a former Jeopardy champion, in delving into the world of trivia –We’ll look at a little history, review some of the classic books, talk about writing trivia, and of course, play some trivia too!

Together, one trivia buff to another…..we’ll talk about all things trivial.  It should be fun.

Weekly on Tuesdays from 7:15-8:30 PM on Zoom. Meeting Dates: 5/17, 5/24, 5/31, 6/7, 6/14 and 6/21.

This Hearth group hearkens to a time when women would sit around the Hearth, for warmth and conversation. A group for mothers of young kids (newborn through elementary school age), who are looking for a fun distraction where we can talk about everything but the kids! Parenting war stories are also welcome!

Mind: Bet Midrash, House of Study

This 8-week Hearth Group will help participants who self-identify as nice white progressives, examine how these attitudes interfere with genuine strides against racism. We also will explore the work it takes to become anti-racist.

Our guiding text will be Robin DiAngelo’s “Nice Racism: How Progressive White People Perpetuate Racial Harm”. By creating a safe space, we will tackle these difficult issues together. Please purchase a copy of the book before the class begins.

Weekly on Tuesdays from 7:00-8:30 PM on Zoom. Meeting Dates: 5/10, 5/17, 5/24, 5/31, 6/7, 6/14, 6/21, and 6/28.

Have coming-out stories gotten funnier since the 1960s? Did lesbian fashion peak in the 1980s? What’s your favorite queer movie or TV show of the 2010s? Come share stories, laughter, and glitter with other Queer/LGBTQIA+ folks ages 18 to 108
