Services will start at 6:00 PM, followed by dinner, and the CRASH Talk will start around 7:30 PM.
What is a CRASH Talk: In times of profound disruption, how do we find the tools and wisdom to go beyond existing structures and mindsets in order to make transformational change? Join Rabbi Benay Lappe for The CRASH Talk, a paradigm-shifting exploration of how the Jewish traditions we recognize today originated from a singular, catastrophic moment of communal upheaval. Using a dynamic and thought-provoking framework, Rabbi Lappe will challenge us to embrace disruption as an opportunity for transformation and creativity. This session offers essential insights for those seeking new ways to meet this moment of great change, whether within ourselves, our community at Temple Beth Am, or the world at large. Come prepared to see the past, present, and future in a whole new light.
Saturday, December 6th, will be a Day of Learning with SVARA. The learning opportunities will include SVARA-style Torah Study at 9:15 AM, a B’Mitzvah Shabbat morning service at 10:30 AM, Kiddush lunch at 12:00 PM, and then at 1:30 PM we’ll move to the SVARA Afternoon learning and end the day with Havdalah around 5 PM.
During the afternoon of learning SVARA will bring immersive, yeshiva-style learning to Temple Beth Am as part of a transformative partnership that celebrates queer culture and the radical roots in Jewish traditions. SVARA turns outsiders into insiders, affirming that each of us has a unique presence that is essential at the table of Jewish Learning. Open to all who know the alef bet, including newcomers. We’re excited to share an afternoon of warm community connection and rigorous learning with you!
In order to participate, you need to be able to know/recognize the aleph bet.
Rabbi Debbie will be offering a Hebrew Intensive Course to learn to decode all the letters and vowels in three weeks. Class will be held on Zoom at 7 pm – 8:30 pm on Sunday, November 16, 23, and 30. This will require a commitment to study independently (or with others) each day for 15 minutes in addition to the Sunday classes. Sign up as part of the Day of Learning Opportunities.
We hope to see you during this special weekend, which is supported by a bequest from Julie Shapiro.
Some of our guests have severe smell sensitivities, so we would appreciate attendees at this event do not wear any scented body products or perfumes.
