Elul Groups

To help you prepare mentally for the High Holy Days, we are experimenting with a modern twist on an ancient custom. The month of Elul, leading up to the High Holy Days, is traditionally a time of introspection, of taking stock of one's life. This year, we have put together curricula for a weekly series of small group discussions that are designed to foster reflective conversations. An Elul Group is not a class; it's an opportunity to share stories, to see and hear each other more deeply, rather than to take positions or debate issues.

Using discussion guides based on those created by Ask Big Questions, an initiative of Hillel International, we'll examine the following four topics:

  • How do you recharge?
  • What are you thankful for?
  • How do we connect?
  • What is your legacy?

This is an intentional, sequential series of content, and will be most meaningful if participants can attend at least three of the four sessions.

Our Elul Groups are now underway and registration is closed.  If you would like to learn more about Elul Groups, discuss them with your family, or even start your own Group, new participant guides will be posted below every week through September 17.  We hope that these guides will help you prepare for meaningful High Holy Days.  We look forward to coming together with you all during this sacred season. Please visit our High Holy Days page early next week to see our schedule of services and events.
